The School of Nursing has honored Patricia Campbell with its 4TH Annual Distinguished Nursing Alumni Award.
Campbell, who received her undergraduate (84’) and masters (88’) nursing degrees from UNC Charlotte, is Vice President of Women’s and Children’s Services at Novant Health Charlotte.
Campbell has worked for Novant in women’s and children’s services since 1989, where she has been instrumental in the creation of many innovative initiatives, including a pediatric development program started in 2013.
CHHS Associate Dean and School of Nursing Director Dee Baldwin said though the selection this year was difficult, Campbell is a deserving candidate who continues a history of graduates making an impact.
“UNC Charlotte has a strong tradition of producing exceptional and high quality graduates who are making a difference in healthcare and improving the lives of others,” Baldwin said.
During her tenure, Novant hospitals have been named the Best Place to Give Birth by Charlotte Magazine, a Friendly Business Work Place by the North Carolina Birthplace Coalition, and have been presented with the Snowmass Award for Women’s Health.
Also a leader in the community, Campbell has served on the North Carolina Board of Nursing Directors, and been a board member at local chapters of the March of Dimes and The Ronald McDonald House, among others.
She was named one of the 50 Most Influential Women by the Mecklenburg Times in 2012, and inducted into the American Academy of Nursing in 2013. Campbell is also the author of several books on critical care nursing.
She was honored at a ceremony at UNC Charlotte’s Center City Campus earlier this semester.
The Distinguished Nursing Alumni Award is presented to a UNC Charlotte nursing graduate for outstanding service to the School of Nursing, or for recognition of exceptional achievement or leadership in the community.
