Dr. Ann Mabe Newman, Associate Professor of Nursing, was recently named among the "50 Most Influential Women" by The Mecklenburg Times, and honored at an event at the McGlohon Theater and Atrium on April 23rd.  These awards recognize the important role women play in the local economy. The honorees represent the most influential women in business, government, education, and the not-for-profit fields, and are selected by a panel of business leaders based on professional accomplishment and community involvement.  Dr. Newman was selected as one of the “50” from among hundreds of nominations. The program’s spotlight on Dr. Newman highlighted her contributions to Arthritis Services, a small nonprofit organization, and described the way she has lived her life as, “she thinks, then acts, always decisively… in keeping with her philosophy that everyone should have an opinion.”
